After rain washed away the opening two practice sessions for the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, William Byron scorched the 1.5-mile stretch of asphalt in a one-hour session that saw the Kyle Busch Motorsports pilot become the only driver to eclipse the 184-mph mark.

Byron's No. 9 Liberty University Toyota circumvented the iconic superspeedway in 29.321 seconds for an average speed of 184.168 mph. Spencer Gallagher was second, with a 29.355-second lap at 183.955 mph. Johnny Sauter (29.457 seconds, 183.318 mph) and Ben Kennedy turned identical lap times for third and fourth, while six-time North Carolina Education Lottery 200 winner Kyle Busch was fifth with a 183.194-mph lap at a 29.477-second clip.
