Race fans visiting Charlotte Motor Speedway for Saturday's Monster Energy NASCAR All-Star Race and the 60th Coca-Cola 600 on May 26 will find a special surprise in their souvenir race programs.
The speedway will honor the late Sam Bass, NASCAR's first officially licensed artist and the designer of 88 souvenir race programs for Charlotte from 1985-2018, with commemorative posters depicting each NASCAR cover Bass designed for the speedway. The programs are available for just $10 each and feature a decorative All-Star Race cover for this weekend and a patriotic Coca-Cola 600 cover next weekend.
"Charlotte Motor Speedway is proud to honor Sam Bass, one of the most talented, genuine members of the NASCAR industry we have ever known," said Charlotte Motor Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager Greg Walter. "Including these special Sam Bass posters in our programs only adds to the value fans get when they buy one. Sam's colorful artwork brought our races to life and was featured everywhere from programs to iconic paint schemes, uniforms, guitars and trophies. He is greatly missed, but his impact on the sport will never be forgotten."
Each poster also features some of Bass' most iconic works for the speedway, including the famous "Sundown Showdown!" cover design for the May races in 1993 - which featured Davey Allison's and Kyle Petty's helmet visors depicting the finish of the first superspeedway night race in NASCAR history, the "One Hot Night" 1992 Monster Energy NASCAR All-Star Race.
