Two rising American stars have joined a spectacular lineup of riders descending on The Dirt Track at Charlotte for the Monster Energy MXGP of the Americas on Sept. 2-3, as the world-class duo of Cooper Webb and Thomas Covington will take part in the only MXGP event on the East Coast.
While the Monster Energy MXGP of the Americas represents the United States' riders first chance of the year to taste victory on home soil, no rider's trip to The Dirt Track at Charlotte will be more of a homecoming than Webb's. The 20-year-old Yamaha rider hails from Morehead City, North Carolina - a much shorter hike to The Dirt Track than the ones that European competitors like Slovenian Tim Gajser, Frenchman Romain Febvre and Italian Tony Cairoli will take.
Webb will head into Charlotte with a wave of momentum to which few riders can compare. He claimed his second consecutive AMA Supercross 250SX West championship this year, while Covington - a Vernon, Alabama, native - continues his push for MX2 supremacy aboard his Husqvarna. Covington, 20, has four top-five moto finishes this season, so there's plenty of reason to believe he'll contend for an MX2 victory on U.S. dirt.
Webb's and Covington's bids to win trophies will take place Sept. 2-3, but fans wanting to have an up-close view of the SuperCourse on which both will race have a unique opportunity on Sept. 4.
Dirt bike enthusiasts who buy a two-day MXGP ticket for $69 plus tax can choose between a FREE two-day paddock pass or a Sunday Ride Day voucher that grants them riding access to the MXGP course.
