The following is a statement from Speedway Motorsports, Inc. President and CEO Marcus Smith on the passing of Robert Yates:
"On behalf of everyone at Speedway Motorsports, we send our deepest condolences to Carolyn, Doug, Amy and the entire Yates family. Robert Yates left a lasting impression on the NASCAR family through his many years as a groundbreaking engine builder and leading car owner. Robert could handle any challenge in the race of life, and did so while inspiring others and building friendships. We're proud that as a Charlotte native, Robert enjoyed significant success at Charlotte Motor Speedway - his home track - including five NASCAR Cup Series points wins and an unforgettable victory in the 1992 NASCAR All-Star Race. Robert's 2018 induction into the NASCAR Hall of Fame could not be more deserved. He was a tremendous friend, family man and pioneer of the sport. He is greatly missed."
