Charlotte Motor Speedway revved the holiday season into high gear on Saturday night when Speedway Christmas' remarkable light show brought thousands of fans to the speedway for a fun night of Christmas lights, fireworks and a sprawling infield Christmas village full of family-friendly attractions.
In addition to 3 million Christmas lights around an expansive 3.75-mile course, the speedway's annual Egg Nog Jog 5K concluded prior to Saturday evening's opening of Speedway Christmas. A record crowd of more than 1,700 runners adorned holiday-themed attire while taking part in the ultimate Christmas fun run around Charlotte's iconic superspeedway. Speedway Christmas attendees were also treated to a petting zoo, live nativity scene and photos with Santa in the Christmas Village as well as a showing of "The Polar Express," the first of 26 FOX 46 Movie Nights on the 16,000-square-foot Speedway TV.
"It's just a really fun, festive event to visit," said Judy Dougherty of Kannapolis, North Carolina. "The light show is really great. There's a lot to see and it's nice for families to come out and enjoy."
