On Tuesday, NHRA Funny Car star Ron Capps paid a high-speed visit to zMAX Dragway, for a media event in advance of the exhilarating NHRA 4-Wide Nationals April 22-24.
Capps, who currently ranks second in the NHRA Funny Car point standings, talked with media members about what makes the high-octane NHRA 4-Wide Nationals a can't-miss event on every drag racing fan's bucket list. Media also participated in a ride-along in an 850-horsepower Roy Hill Drag Racing School dragster and made passes down the Bellagio of drag strips in a 300-horsepower Mustang.
The standout Don Schumacher Racing driver discussed the importance of the NHRA's only four-wide event coming to the dragway in a month's time. Fans from 48 states and 10 foreign countries have already purchased tickets to witness the 40,000-horsepower spectacle.
"There's nothing that we love more than this four-wide thing," Capps said. "To see it live is something you have to do as a fan, and I did it a couple of years ago after I lost. I moved up there and watched the rest of it from the grandstands. I understand what all the fan fare is about and why people come from all over the world to see it. It's a lot to take in, 40,000 horsepower, but it's something you'll never see anywhere else in the world."
Capps also conducted a crash course in how to stage cars for a four-wide showdown, while two of drag racing's most famous cars - Don Prudhomme's "Snake" and Tom McEwen's "Mongoose II" - were on site to promote the Pennzoil AutoFair at Charlotte Motor Speedway April 7-10.
Additionally, track officials announced that Ramseur Records gospel singer Liz Vice will perform the national anthem before final eliminations at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals on April 24.
Three-day tickets for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals start at just $99, while two-day tickets, which include a choice of two beers or two Coca-Colas and two hot dogs, are only $80. Single-day tickets start at only $20.
