Expect to see more tire smoke than ever in Tuesday's Bojangles' Summer Shootout at Charlotte Motor Speedway. As part of First Responders Night presented by Disconnect & Drive, grassroots racing's most entertaining display of Legend Car and Bandolero prowess will be joined by a smoke-billowing Legend Car burnout contest on the frontstretch. Cabarrus County Sheriff Van Shaw and Maj. Bobby Ledwell from the Concord Police Department will vie for the ultimate prize: a one-on-one burnout battle with Lug Nut, the world's fastest mascot.
When reached for comment on his chances of winning, Lug Nut flexed his arms in a bold display of superiority.
Battles for supremacy won't be limited to the Bojangles' Summer Shootout's halftime display, as seven divisions of WIX Filters Legend Car and Bandolero action will duel for championship positioning on Charlotte's high-speed fronfstretch quarter-mile.
Of note, the Boston Reid Real Estate Pro division saw its fifth different winner in six races in the most recent 25-lap tussle. Zach Miller's successful defense of Carson Ferguson and Bubba Wallace gave Miller the inside line on catching Ferguson for the Pro crown. Four races from the July 30 title-deciding Champions Night presented by NGK Spark Plugs, Ferguson leads Miller and Ryan Mackintosh by just 18 points with Joey Padgett and Wallace close behind.
Some of racing's fastest females are also in with a chance at a Shootout championship this summer. Isabella Robusto and Gracie Trotter rank second and third behind Jason Alder in the VP Racing Fuels Semi-Pro division.
All first responders who show their badges or ID get in FREE.
Gates open at 5 p.m. Tuesday with opening ceremonies scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
