Track designers are reinventing the viewing experience for fans attending the Monster Energy MXGP of the Americas, by shifting the location from zMAX Dragway to The Dirt Track at Charlotte, creating the venue's first SuperCourse.
"We reviewed the original course layout and realized the elongated track might not provide every fan with an ideal view of these world-class riders," said Marcus Smith, Charlotte Motor Speedway president and general manager. "Charlotte Motor Speedway produces amazing experiences for fans, and the SuperCourse at The Dirt Track at Charlotte will deliver an unprecedented motocross showcase during a two-night spectacle on Sept. 2-3."
OVERVIEW:
The FIM MXGP World Championship, the most successful global motocross series, will see its riders take on a circuit featuring a down-the-barrel view of the launch.
From the starting gate to the first corner, riders will turn their throttles wide open, coming directly at the grandstand crowd before turning onto a championship course to be filled with banzai jumps, faster, wider straights and twisting turns that will force the best to contort as they never have to traverse these unique corners. Among the many unique challenges planned will be the "parastyle megadrop" corner, where riders will blast from outside of the main fence line and drop in to one of the circuit's most challenging corners.
"We are thrilled with the Monster Energy MXGP SuperCourse," MXGP President Giuseppe Luongo said. "Never before have fans been able to experience a true one-mile, outdoor-style track within an infrastructure such as Charlotte Motor Speedway. Charlotte Motor Speedway is to be commended for its ingenuity with this redesign. It will absolutely be an unequaled experience for grand prix fans from around the globe."
