For four decades, WCNC’s beloved weatherman Larry Sprinkle has been a staple in Charlotte, covering everything from the Queen City’s crazy weather to some of the region’s most iconic events. Now, as he celebrates 40 years on the air, Sprinkle is adding another accolade to his storied career — being named Honorary Chairman of this weekend’s AutoFair presented by Camping World at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

"I’ve had such a deep connection with the speedway over the years, having been part of so many incredible moments there. This is truly a huge honor — one of the most special honors ever,” said Sprinkle. “Having known Bruton (Smith) and the Smith family, and being involved in events at the speedway since the ’70s, this is as special as it gets.”

AutoFair, one of the most celebrated automotive events in the country, will welcome thousands of car enthusiasts for a three-day spectacle April 3-5. While Sprinkle’s official 40-year anniversary falls on April 3, Sprinkle will commemorate his milestone Saturday, April 5, where he will join the judges to walk the line and help select the Walt Hollifield Best of Show award, among other prestigious awards.

“AutoFair is all about celebrating classics – whether it’s vintage cars or legendary figures – and Larry Sprinkle is certainly a Charlotte classic,” said Charlotte Motor Speedway’s President and General Manager, Greg Walter. “We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate Larry’s milestone than by having him be a part of the final day of this incredible event.”

Having worked with WCNC since 1977, and becoming a full-time fixture in 1985, Sprinkle has covered the Carolinas’ most unpredictable weather for decades. Sprinkle has been a beloved part of WCNC’s morning show for 27 years, making him the city’s longest-serving weatherman. Beyond the forecast, he has entertained audiences by hosting telethons, holiday specials and even the early '80s game show Quibble.

Much like Sprinkle’s career, AutoFair is a tradition that keeps getting bigger and better. The three-day event will showcase a breathtaking collection of classic cars, hot rods and modern marvels, making it the ultimate celebration for car lovers. Fans can catch Sprinkle at the helm of the grand finale on Saturday as he walks the AutoFair grounds, sharing in the excitement and judging incredible vehicles to celebrate his 40 years of broadcasting excellence.
